There is a huge variety and choice of restaurants, bars and cafés to suit all tastes and pockets. You are in France after all, so make the most of the local cuisine and regional specialities.
Wine
We are on the doorstep of the Bergerac and Percharmant wine regions and well within reach of Bordeaux and St. Emillion. So if wine tasting is your ideas of fun, again you will be spoilt for choice. Failing that, the local supermarkets are stocked to the gunnels with wines from 1 upwards!

Local Markets
The nearest market is our local in Vergt and is on every Friday morning. However, there is probably a market on everyday somewhere in the area! We have a list of the towns and their market days. |

Places of Interest
La Joubertie lies in a beautiful scenic setting in the heart of the Perigord region, which is steeped in history.
Pre-history and Caves
The region is recognised as the centre of the pre-historic era and there are lots of caves, museums and towns to visit.
Les Eyzies
Grotte du Grand Roc and Laugerie Basse
Walk through the amazing cavern of Grand Roc and marvel at the stalagmites and stalactites. Hear about the history of Cro-Magnon Man.
Rouffignac
La Grotte de Rouffignac
Take a train ride underground and see the wonderful cave paintings.
Montignac
The Lascaux Cave
These world famous caves are well worth a visit to view amazing cave paintings, a world heritage site.
All of these towns are also very pretty and worth a visit in their own right. There are also loads of other caves if you fancy them!
Chateaux and Gardens
Again, you will be spoilt for choice but here's a few of our favourites.
Chateau de Hautefort
|
 |
 |
|
A beautiful castle with landscaped gardens, perched above the pretty village of Hautefort. There are some very nice restaurants at the foot of the castle.
Castlenaud & Beynac Chateaux
Feel the atmosphere - these castles date back to the 100 years war between - guess who? - England and France!
Les Jardins du Manoir d'Eyrignac
Beautiful gardens with a good restaurant plus a lovely drive through the countryside.
Chateau des Milandes
A lovely castle with typically French gardens, a falconry and the museum of Josephine Baker, the cabaret singer. A strange mix this one but there's something for everyone!
Towns and Villages
There are far too many to mention here but here are a few of the main towns of interest.
Sarlat de Caneda
No holiday to the Dordogne would be complete without visiting this stunning medieval town.
|
Sarlat has loads of restaurants, bars and souvenir shops all in a very pretty if somewhat bustling setting.
|
 |
Perigueux
The capital town of the region is a beautiful medieval/Roman town. Well worth a visit for the market and shopping. Also has a Roman Museum and a Byzantine cathedral.
Le Bugue
A pretty little town on the Vezere River - the Tuesday market is a "must do"!!
Domme
Domme is a bastide town that overlooks the Dordogne with stunning views and good souvenir shops. There are also a variety of restaurants and cafés that sell wonderful ice cream.
Bergerac
Bergerac old town straddles the banks of the Dordogne River. Good for shopping and eating out or you can go for a cruise down the river.
|
|
Hopefully this section has given you a small taste of what the Dordogne has to offer you and all of the places and activities mentioned are easily reached from La Joubertie. We have additional leaflets and information to help you make your decision when you get here.
We have the best of both worlds here…..peace and tranquillity but with easy access to tourist sites and plenty of activities nearby.
